چکیده

Diazepam (Valium), which meets most of the above requirements extremely well, is a tranquillizer of the benzodiazepine class, causing muscle relaxation and reduction of skeletal muscle tone (Ranidall, Heise, Schallek, Bagdon, Banziger, Boris, Mol, and Abrams, I96I). This action appears to be mediated through the central nervous system, for it can be shown that the stimulation of muscle through the motor nerve is unaffected. Animal experiments have shown that the respiratory centre and blood pressure are not affected (Parkes, I967). The pharmacological action ofreducing the muscle tone isveryadvantageous in ophthalmic surgery, since reduction in extraocular muscle tone lowers the intraocular pressure (Colle, Duke-Elder, and Duke-Elder, I93 i). Bruha (I964) measured the intraocular pressure in a series of patients before and after the administration of Diazepam, and in most cases in which the pressure was raised, there was a reduction to normal. Similar results were reported by Campan and Espagno (I966).

Effect of premedication on etomidate anaesthesia.

The effect of premedication upon the induction of anaesthesia with etomidate was studied in 74 adult patients undergoing elective orthopaedic surgery. Premedication with fentanyl plus atropine or with diazepam plus atropine decreased the frequency of involuntary muscle movements without modifying the pattern of the circulatory effects of etomidate, although fentanyl increased the frequency of a...

Premedication in children. A controlled clinical trial of oral triclofos and diazepam.

A trial to compare a hypnotic (triclofos) with a tranquillizer (diazepam) as oral premedication was carried out on 200 children aged 2-9 years undergoing e.n.t. surgery. Atropine was added in all cases. Both drugs produced results as satisfactory as those reported in similar trials. Tridofos was better than diazepam if demeanour in the anaesthetic room, response to induction, and reflex respons...

Effects of midazolam and diazepam as premedication on heart rate variability in surgical patients.

We have examined the effects of midazolam 0.06 mg kg-1 i.m. and diazepam 0.2 mg kg-1 orally as premedication on the spectral components of heart rate (HR) variability in 24 elderly patients aged 65-87 yr and 24 young patients aged 18-35 yr undergoing elective surgery. The low-frequency/high-frequency (LF/HF) ratio of HR variability increased after arrival in the operating room in elderly patien...

Sublingual triazolam versus peroral diazepam as a premedication for general anaesthesia.

Sublingual triazolam 0.2 mg (T) was compared with peroral diazepam 10 mg (D) as a premedicant in a randomised, double-blind study. Eighty-one ASA I-III patients aged 18-70 yr, scheduled for elective surgery and general anaesthesia were studied. The patients were premedicated about one hour preoperatively. The T-group subjects (n = 41) received triazolam sl after a placebo po and the D-group sub...

The effect of oral clonidine pretreatment on intraocular pressure and hemodynamic stability after succinylcholine injection and intubation in cataract surgery

Abstract Background: Providing better surgical conditions with meticulous control of Intraocular Pressure (IOP) is one of the most important factors that affect the success rate in ophthalmic surgery. Clonidine is a selective central α2 agonist with analgesic, antianxiety and sedative effects which makes it a good choice in premedication recently. In this study, we compared the effects of oral...
